Mapping Network Drives Within Windows


Intended Audience

This Quicknote is intended for current faculty, staff, and students who would like their network drives to show up under My Computer on their Windows machines.


This Quicknote is specifically for mapping network drives within the Windows operating system. We currently support Windows 10, 8, and 7 for this feature. In order to successfully map your network drives, you will either need to be on campus, or connected remotely through the University's VPN service Pulse Secure. If you are on campus using a wired connection or EDUROAM, you will not need to be connected through Pulse Secure to map and access your network drives.

Please note: These drives can easily be accessed through the use of - without the steps below. The steps that follow are for mapping the drive to your computer rather than accessing it through the above site. We recommend accessing network drives through the VPN web portal for ease of use and security.

Mapping Network Drives Within Windows

Option 1: Run the Logon Script

  1. Open the Start menu, by clicking on the orb located in the lower left corner of the screen.
  2. Type "\\\netlogon\logon.bat" (without quotes) into the search bar.
  3. Left Click on the file named logon.bat on the list of search results. A new window should appear, and your computer will attempt to map the drives.
  4. Your drives will be mapped once the black CMD window disappears.

Option 2: Map the Drives Manually

  1. Open the Start menu, by clicking on the orb located in the lower left corner of the screen.
  2. Click on Computer.
  3. Click on Map network drive in the top right hand corner of the screen.
  4. Under Drive, click the drop down arrow and select a drive letter that has not been used yet. (Note: H: works well for your homedrive.)
  5. In the field next to Folder type the address of the folder you would like to map.
    • Homedrive for STUDENTS: \\\home\"your uniqname"
    • Homedrive for FACULTY & STAFF: \\\home\"youruniqname"
    • Department for FACULTY & STAFF: \\\dept\"your department"
    • PCPub: \\\PCPub
    • MACPub: \\\MACPub
  6. Click Finish.
Now, when you connect to the VPN, you can go to Computer and there is a link to the folder that you have just mapped. Please note you will only be able to get to this folder when connected to the VPN via Pulse Secure.

When prompted for a username and password, please be sure to use and your current password.

Error Message: "Unable to reconnect mapped network drives."

If you receive this message, your computer might not be connected properly onto the VPN service using Pulse Secure. Please verify your internet connection by visiting a website within your browser.
