How to Use the EZProxy

Intended Audience:

This Quicknote is for benefit of faculty, staff and current students who would like to use Library resources from off campus.

Requirements:

In order to access and use EZProxy, you will need to have a current affiliation (i.e. student, faculty, staff) with the University with access to a campus computing account. In addition, you must know which internet browser and version you are using. To find out which internet browser and version you are using, open your internet browser, go to the Help menu and choose About Internet Explorer, About Google Chrome, or About Firefox.

Configuring your Browser for EZProxy

Internet Explorer 9.0+

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the gear icon (located on the upper right hand corner of the window).
  3. Open the Internet Options menu.
  4. Go to the Privacy tab and open the Advanced settings.
  5. Under First-Party Cookies and Third-Party Cookies, select Accept, and then click OK.
  6. Go to the Security tab.
  7. Select the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
  8. Uncheck the box Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
  9. Add http://libproxy.umflint.edu to the list of trusted sites.
  10. Click Close and then OK to close the settings menu.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the icon with the three vertical dots in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Open the Settings menu.
  4. Open the Advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  5. Open the Content Settings menu located under the Privacy and Security section.
  6. Open the Cookies menu and enable the Allow sites to save and read cookie data option.
  7. Click the back arrow twice to return to the main settings menu.
  8. Select Open proxy settings located under the System section near the bottom of the page.
  9. Go to the Security tab.
  10. Select the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
  11. Uncheck the box Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
  12. Type http://libproxy.umflint.edu into the list of trusted sites, and then click Add.
  13. Click Close and then OK to close the settings menu.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click the icon with the three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Open the Options menu.
  4. Select the Privacy & Security tab.
  5. Under the Cookies and Site Data section, select Accept cookies and site data from websites.
  6. Click the Exceptions... button
  7. Type in http://libproxy.umflint.edu to the provided textbox.
  8. Click on Allow and click Save Changes to close the exceptions menu.

Accessing Library Databases

Once you have configured the settings for your browser and version, return to the list of databases on the Thompson Library website at http://libguides.umflint.edu/library or the Electronic Reserves login page at http://libproxy.umflint.edu:2048/login.

  1. Enter your uniqname and current password at the authentication screen below.
  2. Click the Log In button to continue.
  3. The selected database should appear.
