As a faculty or staff member at the University of Michigan-Flint, you are issued a uniqname and password for two accounts:
- LAN (Local Area Network) Account
- UMICH (Ann Arbor) Account
These items grant you access to the various computing services offered by the University. Banner accounts are issued as necessary for those who use Banner and Webfocus Reports. A uniqname is a general identifier used by UM-Flint. Your uniqname allows you to log in to your computer on campus, access wireless services, access the VPN, and much more. Your uniqname is also the first part of your email address. You will also be asked for your uniqname when requesting work tickets. Please contact the Helpdesk if you have forgotten or need assistance with your uniqname.
Email addresses for UM-Flint employees and students are uniqname
@umich.edu. You may access your email either on campus or from home using web-based email by typing http://email.umflint.edu
in the browser (Internet Explorer 9 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox recommended). Please be aware that the size limit for sending attachments is 25 MB. For email guidelines, please consult the Electronic Communication Policy
. The Google Email storage capacity for faculty and staff is Unlimited through the University of Michigan. NOTE: Messages left in your "Trash" folder may be automatically deleted after 30 days.
MCommunity Groups (Email Lists)
MCommunity Groups, previously known as Email Lists, can be created to allow you to contact many people at once via email. These groups can include students of a particular course, employees of a department, or members of a club.

If you need assistance with changing your password, please contact the ITS Helpdesk or bring picture identification to the ITS Helpdesk in 206 MSB.
After syncing the UMFlint and UMich passwords to one, this password will work in conjunction with your uniqname to grant access to computing services on campus including things such as Email, SIS, and Banner. This synced password is also used to gain access to Ann Arbor resources such as Google Services, MCommunity, M-Pathways, M-Stores, some Library resources, Wolverine Access, and UM Online Directory entries. If you need assistance resetting your UMICH password, please contact the ITS Helpdesk or bring picture identification to the ITS Helpdesk in 206 MSB or consult the following Quicknote: Changing Your Password.
Personal and Department Directories
Faculty, Staff, and Students are advised to use Google Drive for departmental and personal storage of specific types of data. Users have access to nearly unlimited storage with a file size limit of 5 Terabytes. You can also access Google Drive directly from your computer's File Explorer by using the Google Drive for Desktop application.
Note: Users are responsible for ensuring that your use of this service complies with laws, policies, and regulations where applicable.

To help protect your privacy by keeping your social security number confidential, UM-Flint has issued identification numbers, called the UMID, for all students and employees. The UMID is a unique number issued by all University of Michigan campuses and is sometimes referred to as the EMPL ID. If you are employed by the University, this number is also used for your payroll records. It is also good to memorize this number so that you may provide it to fellow faculty and staff who may be assisting you.
